IndiGo Airlines, well positioned low-cost private airline, modeled its business on providing highly efficient low-fare travel to the domestic passengers. The brainchild of Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Bhatia, Indigo Airlines has recently gone international after completing five years of domestic operations and getting the license to operate on the international routes, as mandated by the civil aviation regulations in India.
The parent company of the IndiGo Airlines, InterGlobe Enterprises, has its headquarter in Gurgaon, Haryana with IGI airport in Delhi as its operational hub. With focus on the domestic sector, the airlines started off in August 2006 with the first flight of A320-200 taking off connecting New Delhi and Imphal via Guwahati. As of November 2011, it serves 26 Indian and 5 international cities with 272 daily flights.
During the course of its history, it has won numerous awards including the prestigious Skytrack Best Low Cost Airline Awards 2010 in Central Asia.
IndiGo Airlines Flights
Unlike other airlines which operate a variety of different aircraft, IndiGo Flights makes use of only one Aircraft, the 180 seater A320-200, for its operations. This reduces its operational overheads and fits well into its strategy of providing low fare travel on domestic routes. IndiGo Airlines buys only new aircraft. Currently, it has the fleet of 48 A320-200 aircrafts with an average age of about two and a half years making it one of the youngest fleet of aircraft operating from India. Another 232 aircrafts are set to join its fleet over a period of next 15 years.
