Introduction
The Alleppey Beach, also known as Alappuzha Beach, is a pristine stretch of sand lacing a choppy Arabian Sea. An old character-filled pier, about 140 years old, extending into the sea adds to the idyllic charm of this beach.
Stroll along the coastline and let the white foamy waves lap your feet. The beach has the Arabian Sea to the west, and an intricate network of lakes, lagoons and several freshwater rivers close by. You can spend some indolent hours in seclusion, soaking up the sun and watching the blue swells crash against a white shore. The beach doesn’t get too many visitors during the day, but early evening sees a lot of picnicking folks arrive here with their families. It is a nice stretch, perfect for a quiet walk while watching the sun dip into the sea. The verdant palm groves on the other end of the beach are characteristic of a Kerala landscape. While strolling the beach, you will come across an old lighthouse standing tall and forsaken – the lighthouse against the sea in the backdrop makes for a wonderful picture. For the entertainment of visitors, there is the Vijaya Beach Park complete with swimming pool, toy trains and bicycles, and ample boating opportunities. Besides, the waters of Alleppey Beach are ideal for swimming and surfing.
Outside of backwaters, a major drawcard to Alleppey is its long sandy beach, rife with sunbathing and photographic opportunities.
