Introduction
If you are an art lover, don’t give this a miss. This gallery has two halls of exhibits ranging from paintings to sculptures and other artifacts, some of which date back to the Indus Valley civilization.
The gallery has about 600 paintings displayed through the year. On the ground floor, you’ll see the paintings of K Venkatappa -- a panoramic view of the Ooty Lake, view from Church Hill - Ooty, Nilgiri Mountains, Kodaikanal, Sunrise in Ooty and a painting on Monsoon are just some of them.
You’ll find contemporary artistes’ work on the first floor, including those by M F Hussain, Vasudev, Hanumaiah, Hariram, Rekha Rao, Yusuf Arakkal and N S. Bendre. The second floor is dedicated to the paintings of K K Hebbar. Apart from paintings, you’ll also find stone sculptures from the Mathura and Khajarao schools of art. There’s also pottery and clay articles belonging to the Indus Valley Civilizations.
