Introduction

Located in Sector 23 of Chandigarh, the International Dolls’ Museum of Chandigarh is a unique fantastical and education attraction. Established in 1985 with the help of the Rotary Club of Chandigarh at the Bal Bhavan, the museum is managed by the city authorities. Divided into sections and exhibiting over 300 dolls from even the remotest parts of India to the most exotic international destinations, the museum provides an interesting peak into the way the world lives through a collection of beautiful dolls.

Probably the most impressive collection at the Museum is that from India. With dolls depicting the lifestyle of various states and tribes of India, a visit to this section will acquaint you with the dress, jewelry, and even dances of various peoples of the country. Dolls depicting the various dance forms - kathakali, kuchipudi, bharatnatyam, are particularly impressive.

For children, the most interesting section would be the one that depicts literary characters, especially those from some of the most loved fairytales, such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Ali Baba and Alladin. Designed by local artists, entering the display of these dolls is like stepping inside your favorite story.

The Museum also has a scale model of a German railway station. Along with an interesting display of Germanic tracks, signals and passengers, the museum has many exhibits of important global landmarks. Made of ceramic models and life-size pictorial blowups, thee exhibits are an interesting peak into the world around us.

Many exhibits also display the associated trivia. Each doll is accompanied by details of its place or origin and even a short history.
