Introduction

The Periyar Science and Technology Center is housed in a sprawling complex that has

numerous exhibits on science and technology. Spread across five galleries, each of the interactive exhibits offers visitors a great learning experience. The first gallery is the Periyar Gallery dedicated to Thanthai Periyar, an illustrious and revolutionary leader in the South. Here you will find quotes by the great leader including life-size portraits of great scientists.

Proceed to the Children’s Gallery; it acquaints kids with the basic principles of science - light and sound, energy, electricity, motion, gravity and much more. Notable exhibits include the Circus of Force, Bernoulli’s Surprise, and Uphill Cone.

Take a step back in time, and experience the different phases of man’s progress since the invention of the wheel. Take a look at the working models of road transport, railway engines, aeroplanes, ships and submarines. The Electronics and Communication Gallery, on the other hand, has on display all the telecommunication models that form an integral part of our life. Here you find exhibits on Telegraphy, Telephony, Facsimile, wireless, satellite and optical fiber communication, radio transmission and broadcasting.

The Physical Science gallery has exhibits on the basic principles of physics, chemistry and mathematics. Each exhibit has been designed to showcase the principles of time, sound, light, gravity, Ohms law, DNA and much more in an easy-to-understand manner. Further on, proceed to the Science Park. Outfitted with large working models, this outdoor park is designed to provide visitors a hands-on learning experience. The exhibits at the Periyar Science and Technological Center provide fodder for the inquisitive mind.

Adjacent to the Periyar Science and Technology Center is the B.M Birla Planetarium. Housed in a hemispherical theater with a specially perforated aluminum inner dome, it is one of the more modern planetariums in India with a state-of-the-art computerized projector and other technological equipments.
