Introduction
Elliot’s Beach is lesser-known, thus less touristy than the Marina Beach. Located near Anne Besant Nagar to the south of Marina Beach, Elliot’s Beach mostly remains secluded, and is ideal to soak up the sun and watch the sea in solitude. Here you can enjoy a long walk on the coastline, lounge on the silvery sand, and watch the sun set over the sea.
While on the beach, the refreshing coconut water sold by the locals is a must-have – it simply adds to the sun-and-sand experience. And if you have worked up an appetite after a round of swim, walk up to a shack lining the beach. Though few in number, the eateries are a great place to try out some local snacks.
If you have had your fill of sun and sand, visit the Ashtalakshmi Temple and Velanganni Church. The Ashtalakshmi Temple is dedicated to the eight avatars of Goddess Lakshmi, and its architecture a drift from the typical South Indian temple style. The Velanganni Church has a quaint Portuguese façade, and is dedicated to the Lady of Health, Madonna. Other attractions along the beach are the Schmidt Memorial dedicated to a Dutch sailor who lost his life while saving his fellow sailor. A few shops have also come up along the beachfront selling colorful local souvenirs.
