Introduction

To a weary traveler, Corbett Falls is quite a find on the Kaladhungi-Ramnagar highway, some 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from Kaladhungi. Corbett Fall cascades through the year onto fern fringed pools amid pristine greenery. Get off on the highway lined with tall dense trees, and trek along the narrow meandering road through a wilderness of teak and bamboo for about 2 kilometers. The silence of the woods grows deeper as you trail further inside. You will be able to hear the dry leaves crunch under your shoes, the rustle of wind through trees, the murmur of flowing water, and bird songs. It is a rewarding walk to the waterfall, filled with exotic sights and sounds. Amid drooping foliage the vista of a rapturous waterfall onto a pebbled pool is at once inviting.

The place is a photographer’s delight – the lichen-clad rocks, the green pool, the enclosing jungle and the suddenness of white water tumbling down 20 meters (66 foot) make for some memorable photographs. A dip in the cool waters of the pool calms your senses and refreshes you for your journey ahead. The afternoons can get a tad busy in the peak season as many visitors on the way to the National Park stop by to get themselves clicked, and generally enjoy a bath under the cascading water. Post monsoon is the best time to witness this natural spectacle. The surroundings turn sapling green and the waterfall tumbles down with a roar creating a spray of mist. Birders too arrive in groups to this site in different seasons and camp around in hope of spotting some exotic winged visitors.
