Introduction
Nestled at the base of the Nahargarh hills, the beautifully landscaped lush green Kanak Vrindavan Valley stands out like a jewel in the desert state of Rajasthan. According to popular belief, the valley was the place where holy water from different rivers was collected for Ashwamedh Yagna.
Surrounded by the Aravalli Hills and bordered by River Dharbawati, the garden with its verdant greens, Dhok and Khadma trees and glistening water bodies so enamored Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh that he likened it to the Vrindavan, the abode of Lord Krishna and christened it Kanak Vrindavan. He went on to establish two temples: one devoted to Lord Krishna and the other to Natwarji. The Govind Deoji temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna is especially notable for intricate lattice work, cenotaphs and spires, and intricate mirror work.
The temples and the gardens attract hundreds of visitors every year. During festivals, such as Teej and Sri Krishna Janamashtami the crowds are especially large.
The gardens between the two temples are beautifully landscaped and offer a scenic retreat. Divided into eight sections, the gardens are adorned with chattris and a series of cascading fountains including Parikrama, which is carved out of a single block of marble. The melodious hymns chanted by devotees in the temples carry to the gardens and create a very peaceful and serene atmosphere.
