Introduction
Amer Fort was the first capital of the mighty Kachchwaha Rajput rulers of Rajasthan, till water scarcity drove them to establish the newer city of Jaipur. A vivid sound and light show brings alive the history of this hill top fortress. The setting next to the Maota Lake at the bottom of the hill and Amitabh Bachchan’s booming voice make the show especially enchanting.
The first structure at Amber was built as early at 1036 by Raja Kalki Dev. Since then, successive Rajput rulers of the fort added extensions, palaces, and newer decorations to this hilltop fortress. However, the fort was abandoned by the royal household in 1727, when the new capital of Jaipur was established. Since then only the Brahmin priests and avid tourists have been the inhabitants of the fort.
The well-crafted son-et-lumiere show is held at the foot of the Amber Fort, with its craggy walls providing a lively backdrop for the light effects. Made interesting by retelling of the various anecdotes and legends, accompanied by melodious folk music. Hear the story of Rajputs’ rule unfold as the arresting narration takes you through the the history of Amer, its traditions and the grand lifestyle of the royal family.
The Kesar Kyari Complex of Maota Lake enhances the entire experience: with the Amer Fort in front, Jaigarh Fort overlooking from the right and the Aravalli Hills all.
