Introduction

If you remember the Liril soap ad of the girl in the waterfall, then, you know what Pambar falls look like! Yes, Alyque Padamsee did his first Liril shoot at the Pambar Falls. But the scenic falls have enthralled tourists much before that. It is the point where the Pambar river after criss-crosses across wooded mountains and rugged landscape drops magnificently as Pambar Falls, also known as the Grand Cascade. The fall is gentle and dainty, making it ideal for tourists to get under! However, beware of the slimy boulders and vigor of flowing water during the rainy season.

Pambar falls is situated about 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) from the center of the town. The track to the falls goes through little hamlets such as the Vellagavi, over craggy paths lined with orange juice vendors. The terrain is breathtaking and seems untouched by inhabitation. The road glides down precipitously after the Pambar Bridge. The drive here is rough but is ideal trekking ground. Here you can be at your adventurous best and try out offbeat treks such as the wild mushroom hunt or just trail the river course all the way up to the head of the falls.

If you set out in the morning, you could combine multiple destinations in one go. Start with the Dolphin Nose, about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from the main city and drive back to Vellagavi and the Pambar bridge.

During peak season there are a lot of photographers with ‘Polaroid’ cameras waiting to get a shot and make a buck. Enjoy yourself and smile for the camera!
