Introduction
Christ Church is another famous church in Mahabaleshwar. Built during the British reign of the region, the church features elaborate stained glass windows that depict Jesus Christ, the four Evangelists, Moses and even St John the Baptist. The sight of these magnificent windows and the fine craftsmanship is a sight to behold.
The church was build by the British in 1842, at a time when British rule was in ascension in the region. Charged with maintaining the spiritual well being and Christian values of the British residents of Mahabaleshwar, the church undertook massive expansion plans in 1867. Most parts of the church date from that time.
While visiting the church, do take the time to visit the adjoining cemetery. A short walk from the main complex, the cemetery still retains many of the graves and gravestones from the time of the British rule.
