Introduction

The Lingmala Waterfall is one of the most striking spots of Mahabaleshwar. The uninterrupted fall descends 600 feet from the cliff face. The enchanting waterfall cascades into the Venna valley of Mahabaleshwar and a number of tourists can be seen splashing around at the foot of the falls. The best season of visiting the falls is the start of the rainy season when the water level rises and waterfalls are a sight to behold. Don’t wait for the peak monsoons as during that time the hill station is practically shut down. It is 6 kilometers from the main town.

Another popular waterfall is the Chinaman Waterfall. Situated about 4 kilometers south of the main town, it is a spectacular fall on the Koyana River. The falls are named after the Chinese gardeners who used to maintain the gardens surrounding the lawns. But all of that has now passed. Today. the calm surroundings are an ideal picnic spot where families and groups of youngsters can be found enjoying a fun filled day under the clear sun. The way to get to the Chinaman Falls is to take the Carviali Road from Mahabaleshwar.

Dhobi Waterfall is another popular picnic spot. It lies 3 kilometers away from the town area and is situated midway between Lodwick Point and Elphinstone Point on a scenic corner of the hill station. Dhobi Falls face the southern side of the Elphinstone Point. The water falls through a rocky terrain and the rocks on either side being bright emerald with the foliage present a soothing sight.
