Introduction
Sculpture Museum is a must-do on your trip to Mahabalipuram. It opens up a world of sculptures most of which are depictions of gods and goddesses’ from Hindu mythology. On display are over 3000 sculptures, monolithic statues, chariots, sculpted reliefs and paintings that leave the history lover in you spellbound. The exhibits here are of immense historical significance, and reflect the glory of the bygone era. You will come across some Buddhist sculptures and idols as well. Other than stone, there are sculptures in wood, brass and cement, with some truly rare depictions of Hindu deities. A lot of these sculptures have been made over the years by the students of Mamallapuram College of Sculpting.
Located on East Raja Street in Mahabalipuram, the museum is easily accessible from the main town.
