Introduction
Mussoorie Jheel was developed jointly by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority and the City Board as a tourist spot en-route Mussoorie from Dehradun. The Jheel is an ideal place to catch your breath after a long drive on steep and winding mountain roads into Mussoorie. The Jheel offers magnificent views of the surrounding hills covered with greenery, and not to mention, fresh mountain air. A brief distance from the lake, there are several roadside cafes popularly called "Maggi points". You can enjoy a hot cup of tea with sandwiches here.
Tourists can enjoy boating in the jheel (meaning lake) for an entry fee of INR 5 per passenger. Children up to the age of 10 years can ride for free. Renting a boat costs INR 20 per head for thirty minutes. A trip to Mussoorie Jheel opens up wonderful photo opportunities.
There are a few other places close to the Jheel which you can very well include in your day trip. The Shiv Mandir is at a little distance above the Mussoorie-Dehradun diversion, adjoining which is the Tibetan college for Buddhist Studies. Note its beautiful Tibetan architecture, a manifestation of life and the teachings of Buddha.
