Introduction
A spacious six-acre area in the heart of Delhi, Dilli Haat attempts to recreate the traditional weekly bazaar ambience. Stalls housed in thatched huts and bricked houses offer ethnic specialties from different regions across India. Dilli Haat is creatively landscaped with a paved stone plaza interspersed with flowering planters, shrubs, grass, and towering eucalyptus trees. Here artisans from various parts of the country display their creations in an open-air setting. Shop for armloads of ethnic artifacts, junk jewelry, traditional Indian outfits, besides footwear, metal crafts, pottery and dainty scarves among others. Browse the Rajasthan stall for traditional jutti (shoes), the Gujarat stall for handbags rich in threadwork. You will also come across a set of stalls from the northeastern part of the country specializing in bamboo furniture, bags, mats, vases, jewelry and other oddball antiques. If you fancy an intricately handcrafted stole, head to a Kashmir kiosk - the workmanship on these woolen garments is just so fine and immaculate. All the while you shop, don’t forget to negotiate the price with the shopkeepers. There are ample food stalls around, all serving delicious regional specialties. After shopping, find yourself a seat before one the many food stalls; you could try the Sikkim stall serving steamed chicken and pork dim sums with clear soup and some spicy red chilly sauce. The locals quite love eating dim sums (popularly called momos) time and again at Dilli Haat, and you might enjoy it too!
