Introduction
The scenic uphill drive en route to Kotagiri can take you to the highest point of the district - Dodabetta Peak. In Kannada language, Dodda means Big and Betta means Hill. Standing 2,623 meters above sea level, this big hill offers an unbelievably refreshing view of the surrounding geography.
On a bright, clear day you can get a view of distant Coimbatore, Mysore and Chamundi Hills. The reserve forest around the peak is also an important attraction.
Atop the hill is an observatory open for visitors. You can also pay a nominal fee and get a view from the two telescopes kept there. If you are looking for a good experience, visit this place early in the morning to view the sunrise. As one hill seems to awaken with the sunlight, the other still tries hiding in darkness trying to catch some last bit of sleep. It’s a magical sight!
Don’t forget to carry your camera to capture the scenic drive and the view from the top.
