Introduction

Along one side of a long spur that rises above the two streams that flow down from Aru and Sheshnag, Pahalgam has a nine-hole golf course. At an altitude of some 2,400 meters above sea level, this is one of the highest courses in the world and may well be considered one of the most scenic ones too – this reaches up to corn fields and is under the gaze of high mountains. At the moment, the fairway has only the existing nine holes but work is under way to develop this into an international level eighteen-hole course. There is a small club house where light refreshment is available; equipment and caddies are also available on charge.
