Introduction
A few kilometers from Khadakwasla—popularly known as the ‘Chowpatty’ of Pune—lie the Panshet and Varasgaon Dams, which supply water for irrigation. Of late, the area around these two Dams has gained a lot of popularity because of frequent water sports activities involving water scooters, speed boats, etc. A couple of other equally popular and scenic picnic spots in and around the area are Peacock Bay and Neelkanteshwar. While the former derives its name from the abundant presence of the national bird in the region, the latter is named after a temple of Lord Shiva. Across a bridge, to the northwest of the Khadakwasla dam, lies the National Defence Academy.
