Introduction
A legacy of one of the world’s most recognizable, albeit controversial, mystics, Osho Commune International advocates a philosophy that is an amalgamation of, among others, Zen Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Jainism, Christianity, and ancient Greek ways of thinking. However, the common thread that ties all activities conducted within the Commune together is that they all occur within the context of meditation. Within pyramid shaped structures, and inside a sizeable auditorium, visitors experience the unique Dynamic Meditation, as well as other techniques including Devavani, Nadabrahma, Nataraj, Mandala, Gourishankar, Kundalini, etc. The Osho Multiversity offers short one-day long individual sessions as well as three-month long professional training in meditative therapies that bring together the best aspects of both Eastern and Western viewpoints.
The Resort makes no discrimination based on color, caste, or creed. However, an AIDS test is mandatory before being granted entry. Also, the Commune has no provision for children under 12 and those with severe physical or mental disabilities. For those thinking about staying on campus, accommodation is available at the Osho Guesthouse, where tariffs for the 60 rooms vary between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000. For a day’s visit, the expenses incurred amount to Rs 550 (Rs 200 for Indian nationals). It includes entry and a meditation pass that allows oneself to be on campus from 5:30 in the morning to late at night and participate in all the meditations at the Gautama the Buddha auditorium and at the Osho Teerth Garden.
