Introduction
Dating back to the mid-19th century, Christ Church is the second oldest church in Northern India, and still retains its original grandeur.
Located on the eastern ridge of Shimla, the Christ Church is one of the most prominent features of Shimla’s skyline. Designed by Colonel JT Boileau in Gothic style, the church as it stands today is one of Shimla’s most photographed monuments. Though it was designed in 1844, its consecration took place only in 1857, as it was realized that the church was small for the Sunday congregations.
Later additions to the structure include a clock donated by Dumbleton in 1860 and a porch in 1873. Appreciate
its stained glass windows, brass plaques and tablets, bells and the largest pipe organ in the country. Sunday services are held at 0900 and 1100 hours on Sunday.
