Somerset Greenways

After a month long stay i can truly say that somerset is a home away from home, Somerset is one of the best hotels i have ever been in. Like all the other hotels who have a deluxe room containing a television a king size bed with an awesome view, somerset had it all but for me i found the new concept of having an apartment instead of a deluxe room took away the cheese. The apartment concept provides the resident with a fully loaded kitchen with a microwave a heater and a fridge all of the best quality. The apartment has a separate washing machine room where there is a provision to keep all the dirty clothes and the washed and dried clothes separate. The room is fantastic 5 star quality with 2 plasma televisions one in the room and one in the lounge area. The swimming pool is on the top floor which gives you a beautiful view to the city while swimming, it is a place where one can come and relax and have a great time. There are 2 kids center where kids can play various board games and the wii. The house keeping is literally on your beck and call and the staff is very humble and friendly. The only place that i feel somerset could improve would be on the quality of food and i feel they should increase the choices in cuisines and not just restrict them to Indian and Italian.

The staff - Nisha, Abhi, and Vishant in particular - were always very accomodating and helpful, and made their best for me to feel at home. The property is more than sufficiently equipped for a long-stay resident such as myself (stayed from March 2012 to March 2013) with amenities such as a washer/dryer, iron, etc. in room, and a gym and a pool on the top floors. The staff even let us take our breakfast to-go if in a hurry during the morning rush. I liked my Somerset Greenways experience so much that I booked my family at Somerset Liang Court in Singapore for the New Year - and that stay was awesome too! Two thumbs up for Somerset!

I stayed at Somerset Chennai for 1 week during Jan-Feb 2013. This was arranged by my company for my relocation. I had a general understanding of the guest houses- many small rooms, common hall or similar in apartments etc. and I was with my family so a little concerned about the quality/hygine etc... However when I reached this place, it was a surprise.. First it is not a small apartment or something like that.. .It is a huge property with proximity to beach and pretty green location. The reception hall itself is grand and then I got the idea of what luxury guest houses mean. We got 7th floor. Room was BIG and filled with all latest home utilities and appliances, (We got a siemens front load dryer/washer, siemens induction/flame stove, siemens microwave with grill/oven, classy cutlerie and crockery units). The bathroom was huge again with bath tub and very nice soap dispensers..So much sofistication that at one point, I became worried about damaging these items especially when my kid likes to test everything around.. The view was superb and the Terrace View was even better.. There is a very good pool surrounded by roof garden and seating and you see all green on one side, sea waves on the other.. We had a complimentary break fast at the Burgundy Restaurant and the variety of breakfast menu was very good. (It is an expensive place if you come for stand alone brunch or dinner).. You get access to the B-Bar as well which again is a pretty happening place late night and on weekends... Room terrif, when I compared to other places in chennai, was not that bad given these facilities and the complimentary items.. The ambience and quality of each item there is "High Class".. Good open garden and play area for kids around the hotel and they really enjoy it.. Now, why would I say it was better than 5 star hotels?...Sometimes my assessment could be middle class type but honestly I would not waste money anywhere if I do not get a very good value and freebies.. Here at Somerset you get everything that you would get at a 5 star hotel, bar/lounge, top class food (actually the restaurant is run by some spciality chef but I do not remember the name), great views and landscaping the best possible utilities and sophistication at room and then it is without much hotel type crowd, your own electronic passes for room and elevators, not much fuss with music all around and you can park your vehicle or hire one if you want.. If you try to get this size and quality of room in a 5 star hotel, you will be spending big money (The room that I got was almost twice the room sizes in other hotels). Did I dislike something at this place- absolutely nothing. I had some good friends (Shyam & Jeeth who fight with each other all the time) at Chennai and becase of them I came to know about the place and it was worth.

Stayed here for 2 nights in March 2013. This is the kind of quality property you'd expect to find in a modern western city at about a third of the price. It's still on the expensive side for India, but amenity, food and service are first class. Pros: - Room. Booked a premier executive room. These have a huge balcony with comfortable seating. Well worth the extra $20. The room was huge. About 40 sq metres plus balcony. Everything you'd expect to find in a first class hotel is there. Safe. Huge TV. Room service. Nice bed linen on a huge bed. Work desk. Lounge. Kitchen with microwave and stove. Cutlery, crockery. Washing machine/dryer. Nice lighting options in the room. Quality fixtures and fittings throughout and everything worked and nothing was broken or damaged. Bathroom was big with a tub and a rainhead shower. - Service. The staff were uniformly helpful and professional. Whoever is training their staff is doing a great job because they all had the kind of customer service orientation that can be hard to find in India. - Food. Buffet dinner in the restaurant is on the expensive side but still under $20 US. Good range of Indian dishes with some nods to western palates. Delicious. - Swimming pool. Great rooftop pool with nice views and the ocean not so far away. Long pool so you can really swim in it. Lounges near the pool for chilling out. Towels provided. - Wifi. Free, fast and reliable. - Two bottles of water in the room. - It was great to be able to do my washing and hang it out on the balcony to dry. I rang reception and they brought a drying rack up to my room within a few minutes. - Breakfast. Included in the rate and a wide selection. Omelette chef, fruits, bread, roti, Indian dishes, juices. Everything you'd expect. Cons : - none really. You can find a cheaper place in Chennai and still have a decent hotel. But the comfort and service on offer here made it worthwhile for me. - Fitness centre. Putting this in the cons because both times I went down there - once early morning, once evening, the noise in there was blasting. Music one time and the TV another. Personal preference I know, but intrusive over-loud music in a fitness centre turns me straight off. Location is not far from the beach but I didn't venture far out of the hotel so can't really comment. About 50 mins by taxi from the airport and 20 mins from Chennai Egmore railway station. Would I stay here again. Definitely. It was a very comfortable and relaxing oasis in India.

Went to Chennai for a business trip, fortunately selected Somerset Greenways to stay for two days. Rooms are fine with all facilities including kitchen setup. Bathroom was spacious with nice utilization of space. Food was a bit expensive but food quality was good. The hotel has a location near beach and away from city rush. Nice place to stay alone or with family.
