I visited the Raintree towards the end of September. Post landing at the airport, the taxi took me to the Anna Salai Raintree, where, for obvious reason, there was no record of my booking. I then got to know about the existence of the St. Mary's Raintree where I was supposed to have gone. The Anna Salai hotel staff, quite used to such occurrences, got a hotel vehicle to take us to our hotel. Even though under construction, the St. Mary's Raintree is one of the most underrated hotels I've ever been in. Hospitable staff, spacious rooms, amazing views - all made for a wonderful experience. We were able to check in early, ordered room service twice - only to be pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food. The sandwiches, soups, pasta, even the humble tea - were delicious. On the second day, the staff graciously agreed to our request for a late check out given that our flight was later in the evening. Meantime, the staff recommended the pan Asian restaurant in the basement for lunch - Chap Chay. Brilliant experience - 5 stars for the food, the ambience and the staff. There's nothing better than finding hotel staff that know the menu, bother to find out about your choices and finally, serve you good food. We chose the set menu over the a-la-carte menu just to make our lives easier. Huge portion sizes! Loved the mango/papaya salad and the spring rolls. I just kept gobbling up the starters and paid no heed to the fact that there would also be a main course! I should have controlled :( the main course had an interactive stir fry where you could choose your own ingredients. The choice of sauces I was offered makes my mouth water just by thinking about them - I chose chili coriander as one and a garlic base for another. The result was delectable! Kudos to the chef and staff! A note on the ambience - muted lighting, minimalistic decor, all set the tone for a scrumptious meal. Everytime I visit Chennai, this place will be a must visit, and of course, I will stay in the hotel again during the next visit too :) Totally worth it!Read More
