Rourkela, a city located in the state of Odisha, is situated at a distance of around 340 km from the capital city Bhubaneshwar. The place is famous as an industrial town and has a large number of iron and steel manufacturing units. One of the largest steel manufacturing units in India, the Rourkela Steel Plant, is also situated in this city. Resting on a hilltop, the city is blessed with natural beauty.
While on a Rourkela tour, travellers must visit Vedvyas, where two beautiful rivers, namely Sankha and Koel converge. The garden temple, known as the Hanuman Vatika, is one of the other primary places to visit in Rourkela. This garden spreads over an area of about 13 acres and there are many temples situated inside it. An idol of Lord Hanuman, which is about 75-feet tall, is situated at the entrance of the temple complex. Some of the other temples located inside the garden are the Batta Mangala Devi Temple, Santoshi Mata Temple, Sarala Devi Temple, Jagannath Temple and Sai Baba Temple.
Khandadhar and Darjin are two other popular tourist places around Rourkela. Khandadhar attracts tourists with its sparkling perennial waterfall, where water falls from a height of 244 m. Darjin is a picturesque picnic spot, which is visited by almost all tourists during their trip to Rourkela. In addition, travellers can visit Indira Gandhi Park, which comprises a doll museum, an aquarium and a zoo. Moreover, tourists can enjoy a ride in the toy train that goes around the zoo.
