Drop the Houseboat.
on August 5, 2014
The care taker was hospitable though lacked genuine warmth, however the best person and experience in out trip of Kashmiri locals came from our driver in some ways a hero who protected us as much as he could by making us aware of the extortion that greets you for the most as a tourist. Prices seemed ridiculously high but to our luck our driver was truly helpful and a Knight in Shining Armour. So its advisable to do a complete research and get prices before you finalize a trip being specific where you'd like to go and what your interest in that particular tourist spot is with the hotel and its travel & tours (otherwise like us you reach a spot where the driver isn't permitted to go & then you need to shell out a huge amount to another local so called guide to take you to the actual place of interest, causing unexpected costs which tend to be unqualified). To sum up the stay, the houseboat we stayed in was comfortable, clean and well maintained, the view was breathtaking and relaxing once we returned from our daily adventures.

Awesome property..excellent location
by kumarankur on June 22, 2016
I visited with three couples and three kids..the houseboat is located on Nageen lake which is far from central Srinagar and dal lake..but it is far better from commercial dal lake..excellent location and good hospitality..this property deserves five stars & forgot to mention delicious homely food..
There are many Peacock Houseboats - expect variability. Nigeen is the place to stay though.
by Envisager on June 21, 2016
The main thing to note is that Peacock Houseboat is not one but a group of houseboats (20 odd perhaps), all closely docked together, but essentially operated separately, borrowing from the same brand name like a franchise. Our experience was still great, but there is variability across houseboats, some of which are larger and better equipped than the others. Perhaps the most significant bottomline then is that book any houseboat in NIGEEN LAKE (not Dal) on the edge of the lake opposite from the Nigeen Club for greater serenity and you'd have similar awesome experiences. This means WelcomHeritage, Peacock, Mag. Sheraton etc are all similar - though some are bigger boats than the others. Don't stay in the Dal Lake, but do splurge on a shikara ride that takes you through Dal settlements AND Nigeen over a couple of hours. For where we stayed the food and the service was great. So was the experience of sitting on the deck facing the peaceful lake, reading a book and sipping kahwa or eating maggi.

Well maintained property , but i think it was a property which was hired by peacock group and not a original property of peacock . food was good . staff was very much cooperative and helpful . overall a pleasant stay .
Nicely decorated but poor customer service
by Aditya N on June 18, 2016
The houseboat had no hot water when we reached there and took several hours for hot water to come from the taps. This becomes a problem in a place like Srinagar in winter. Also one thing that put us off the most was there was only one choice of food for vegetarians i.e. Aloo Gobi, Dal, Rice and Chapati. For anything else that we asked him in the food menu, Mr. Tanvir (the care taker of the houseboat) had a ready answer, No, this is not available. But the decor and ambiance inside was very good with a great view of the Nigeen lake.
Not that much good as it looks
by Jeet11 on June 16, 2016
In my Kashmir Trip, stayed there for 1 night. They will direct you to come to Ghat No 1 of Nigeen Lake beside Nigeen Club. From there they will take you to Houseboat by Shikara. They say it as a complementary ride. But the truth is, road connecting the place where the Houseboat is stationed is difficult to find out. Even the local drivers of Srinagar also not very much acquainted with the road. Inside Houseboat nicely decorated, Room, Washrooms clean enough.Houseboat attendants are not bad. Tea is complementary. Choice of food is very limited, basically 'Thali System', but at the same time rate is reasonable. Insect or Mosquito may trouble you, better to carry mosquito repellent. Doors and locks are not strong enough as far as security point of view is concerned. One night stay at Houseboat is a unique experience , specially you will find it , that many persons are coming by Shikaras to sell their goods. 'Market on Water' concept was something new for us, what we really enjoyed.
Beautiful view, Nice staff(Staff can speak in English)
