Later Shahjahan shifted his capital to Shahjahanabad in Delhi and ruled from there. However he was dethroned in 1658 by his son Aurangzeb and imprisoned him in Agra Fort. Finally many regional kingdoms emerged after the death of Aurangzeb.

However, there is a mosque within the complex which is built in lines of the mosque in Mecca. Entrance to the mosque is through Buland Darwaza.

    Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb
    Itmad-ud daulah is one of the most striking of Mughal tombs. The tomb contains cenotaphs of Mirza Ghiyas and Asmat Begum, the parents of the powerful Mughal Empress Nurjahan queen of Jahangir. Itmad-ud-Daulah's tomb is a highly decorated edifice which witnesses innumerable tourists every year from several parts of the country.
