Bounded by the great Aravalli range on three sides and encircled by a massive wall with four gateways is the glorious city of Bundi, which is known for its amazing history and rich cultural heritage. This colourful city derives its name from a former Meena King, Bundi Meena who belonged to one of the prominent local tribes known as Meena. A Hada Rajput chieftain captured the town of Bundi (historically known as Hadoti Region) from the Bhils and other tribal of the area and established it around 1241 AD. The city of Bundi has impressive forts, palaces, havelis and temples with beautiful stone idols and exquisite 'chattris' with carved pillars. Bundi is famous for its intricate carvings, murals and frescoes that adorn the spectacular forts, palaces and temples.

Taragarh Fort
Taragarh Fort is one of the most impressive forts of Bundi. Built in 1354 AD, the fort is perched on a verdant hillock with a huge reservoir, which supplied water to the palace. The gigantic gateway of the fort is approached by a flight of steps. A famous canon is mounted on the Bhim Burj, the biggest battlements. The fort affords breathtaking view of the city.
Ratan Daulat
This extraordinary monument was constructed by one of the great Rajput king, Rao Raja Ratan Singh. Ratan Daulat comprises of a huge stable for nine horses and a Hatia Pol.
Bundi Palace
The magnificent palace rests besides the famous Taragarh fort. Donned with traditional murals and miniature paintings, this royal edifice is a fine example of the Rajput architectural style. Located inside the Palace is Chitrashala that consists of an art gallery or pavilion. It exhibits miniature colorful murals depicting scenes from the Ragmala and Raaslila-the story of Radha-Krishna. The steep, paved carafe-way of Chattar Mahal is the only way to reach the monument.
Sukh Mahal
The splendid Sukh Mahal beside the placid Sukh Sagar Lake is surrounded by a picturesque garden. An underground tunnel is believed to run from the Sukh Mahal to the old palace. It was the magnificent summer palace of the royal family of Bundi. The famous writer Rudyard Kipling once stayed here. It has now been turned in to an Irrigation Rest House.
Phool Sagar
This charming Phool Sagar Palace is located to the west of Bundi. The beautiful lake set midst the gardens of the palace is a good place for bird watching, especially from November to February.
Eighty-Four Pillared Cenotaphs
The incredible eighty-four pillared monument is a memorial erected by Rao Anirudh in the year 1683. Set among the well-maintained gardens, the cenotaph also houses a small Shivlingam.
Kshar Bagh
Kshar Bagh is an ancient garden near Shikhar Bhuj. It was built for Bundi rulers and their queens. The ornamented cenotaphs of royal Bundi kings standing in the garden exemplify the rich architecture of the town.
Ranlji ki Baori
This 46 m deep stepped well was built in 1699 AD by Rani Nathavatji. The pillars and the high arched gate of the Baori are ornamented with some superb carvings.
Shikar Bari
This royal hunting lodge is set amidst the lush green surroundings. It is an idyllic picnic spot of Bundi.

By Air: Jaipur is the nearest airport, which is 220 km from Bundi. Local taxis and State transport buses are the best way to travel to Bundi from Jaipur.
By Rail: Bundi railway Station connects Bundi with all major cities including Kota, Agra, Chittorgarh, Benaras and Jaipur.
By Road:A wide network of roads connects Bundi to Ajmer (5 hours), Kota (1 hour) and Jaipur (5hours).
