Places of Interest
City Palace
Located in the heart of the city is the remarkable City Palace, which is an astounding blend of traditional Rajasthan and Mughal architecture. Encompassing a large area, the palace is enclosed by an outer wall, which was built by Raja Jai Singh. Nakkarkhana-ka-Darwaza, the huge gateway of the palace is flanked by two life sized stone elephants. The major part of the palace houses the Sawai Man Singh Museum that display a remarkable collection of textiles, paintings, manuscripts, extraordinary weapons and two huge urns of silver, which are said to be the largest silver vessels in the world. A part of the palace is still occupied by the royal family of Jaipur.
Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal is the most acclaimed landmark of Jaipur. Adjoining the walls of famous City Palace, this tapering structure, made of red and pink stone was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It is a five storied building dotted with 593 finally screened windows and balconies. The cool breeze that passes through these tiny windows gives the palace its name, palace of Winds.
Amber Fort
The impregnable Amber Fort stands high atop a rugged hill in a small village named Amber, which was once the capital of the Kachhawa clan. Built with red sandstone and marble, the stunning fort was constructed in 1592 under the supervision of Raja Man Singh I. The fort was later brought in to a new look by Raja Jai Singh I. Donned with expressive painting scenes with carvings, precious stones and mirror settings, the fort has a huge canon which is supposed to be the largest in Asia. It needed one hundred kilo of gunpowder for one shot. The fort also houses a small museum that exhibits old maps, medals, stamps, artillery, photographs of the royal families and a fifteenth century old spittoon. Affording a spectacular view of the surroundings, Amber fort remains the major tourist destination of Jaipur.
Birla Mandir
Also known as, Laxmi Narayan temple, Birla Mandir dominates the skyline of the pink city. It is a white marbled temple dedicated to God Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi. Constructed by the foremost industrialist group of India, Birla’s, the temple is crowned with three huge domes each portraying the different approaches to religion. The lush green gardens of the temple are decked with beautiful sculptures of various mythological themes and images of gods and saints.
Albert Hall
Albert Hall or Central Museum is located in the vast and verdant Ram Niwas Garden. named after Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria’s husband, the hall has been modeled on Victoria and Albert Museum in London and is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Now converted in to a museum, the Albert Hall displays is a rich repository of an exquisite collection of metal ware, decorative wares, miniature portraits, sculptures, natural history specimen, an Egyptian mummy and other exquisite objet d’art.

By Air: Sanganer Airport, Jaipur has regular flight connections to /from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur and Udaipur. The airport also receives a single international flight to Dubai.
By Rail: Jaipur has its own railway station. A good number of direct trains from Jaipur connect it all major cities of India. The famous luxury train, Palace on Wheels leaves Delhi every Saturday and passes through a number of tourist destinations in Rajasthan.
By Road: Jaipur is well linked by road to all key cities in India. Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation runs regular luxury and deluxe buses from Delhi to Jaipur.
