Jalna was a part of two erstwhile districts Aurangabad and Parbhani. Jalna comprises of five Tehshils - Jalna, Bhokardan, Jafferabad, Partur and Ambad. Jalna is hemmed in north by the districts of Jalgaon and Buldhana, district of Parbhani in east, in south by the district of Bid and in west by the district of Aurangabad. The northern part of the district lying between the Satmala hills and the central hill range known as Jalna Hills is an unpaid plateau and is drained by the Purna River and its tributaries, while the southern part is low and flat. The Ajanta range acts as a watershed between the Tapi velley on the north and Godavari velley on the south, while the Jalna hill range works as a watershed between the two fertile velleys of the Girja in the north and Dudna in the south.
Jalna was earlier a part of Nizam State and became part of India, after the Marathwada Mukti Sangram, as a tahsil of Aurangabad district. Jalna district was formed on 1st May 1982 by carving out Jalna, Bhokardan, Jafrabad, Ambad tahsils of Aurangabad district and Partur tahsil of Parbhani district. Jalna district spreads over an area of 7,612 Sq.Kms, which is 2.47% of the total state area. Jalna district is famous for it's hybrid seed processing industries, steel rerolling mills, bidi industry and agro based industries like dal mill.

The Matsyodari devi Temple of Ambad Situated in south 21 k.m. away from Jalna city The Matsyodari devi Temple of Ambad is on the hill which resembles the shape of a fish. The Matsyodari devi Temple of Ambad is considered to be one of the oldest temples in the region. Every year a fair is held at the temple in October, in Navratra.
Jamb Samartha, Ghansawangi This is the place Sant Ramdas Swami was born. Jamb Samartha lies in Ghansavangi tahsil of Jalns district.Samartha Ramdas was born exactly on the time of Ram Janma ( Lord Rama’s birth) on Chaitra Shukla Navami Shake 1530. His actual name was Narayana and was the younger son of Suryajipant Thosar Kolkarni and Ranubai. Gangadhar was the elder brother of Sant Ramdas Swami. An annual fair is held at the Ram Temple on Ram Navami. Large number of devotees attend the fair every year.
Jalicha Dev (Shri Chakradhar swami) Jaidevwadi For the Mahanubhav Panth people Jalicha Dev is the most important holy place. As is believed Shri Charkradhar Swami stayed here for a short while which falls in Bhokardan tahsil in the north.
Anandi Swami Temple , Jalna Built by Maratha warrior Mahadji Shinde on the place where Shri Sant Anand Swami was buried in old Jalna. The temple is 250 years old. A fair takes place every year on Ashadi Ekadashi. Large number of devotees attend the fair.
Mamma Devi Temple ,Jalna This temple is of Maman Devi at Mastqad, old Jalna. Kirtan and Bhajan take place daily here.
Moti Baag, Jalna Moti Bag is of the famous attractions of Jalna city. It has a nice garden decked with grass and coloured flowers.
Kali Masjid At Jalna At the court road there is an old mosque called kali Masjid. Muslim people throng here and perform namaj. The mosque is around 400 years old and is built in black stone by the famous saint Jamshed Khan.
