    Situated at an altitude of 1,425 meters on Kalka- Shimla highway Kandaghat was built by the ruler of Patiala state Maharaja Bhupinder Singh that is called "Chail View Palace". Presently this is housing the Government Polytechnic College for women. In the preindeopendence period it was known as Kohistan district, was the seat of the Deputy Commissioner. It was also the summer capital of the princely state of Patiala. After independence, it was called "Pepsu". However, the small town of Kandaghat got to be in the popular map when the Maharaja of Patiala was expelled from Shimla and he took refuge in Kandaghat. The palace, which has been converted to Women's Polytechnic, still retains its past glory in the few rooms for the royalties.
