Encircled by the sedate Satpura Ranges, Pachmarhi is the only hill station in entire Central India. It is located at an altitude of 3500 ft above sea level and at a distance of 200 km from the capital city, Bhopal. Pachamarhi derives its name from the five Pandava Caves located here. According to a legend, these caves served as a shelter to the five Pandava brothers during their exile. Popularly known as “Satpura ki Rani”, this unexplored hill resort was discovered by Captain James Forsyth of the British Army in 1857. It became a sanatorium for British troops in the Central Provinces of India. The stunning natural beauty of Pachmarhi appealed a lot to the home sick Britishers who were looking for solitude and a quite break from the chaos and clamor of cities. The hill station retains its old colonial charm with its elegant British bungalows and magnificent Victorian churches. Pachamarhi is the highest point in Central India. Covered with thick forest and criss crossed by sparkling stream and gurgling waterfalls, Panchmarhi is home to some rare flora as well as fauna. The picturesque spot affords several interesting walks through deep Sal and bamboo forests. Dotted with many tourist attractions, Pachmarhi remains the perfect holiday destination to relax and unwind.
