    Located in eastern Rajasthan at the confluence of great Aravalli range and verdurous Vindhyas, Ranthambore National Park is one of the famed and filmed tiger reserves of India. It is spread over an area of 400 sq. km, which is blessed with rich flora and fauna. Once a royal hunting reserve, the park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and became a part of Project Tiger in 1973. Regarded as one of the ideal places for wildlife photography, it is the best place to get a glimpse of the majestic predator in the world.     Ranthambore Fort
    This majestic Ranthambore fortress is perched on a hilltop in the midst of a lush green forest at the confluence of the Aravali and Vindhya hills ranges. The fort owes its name from two verdant hills, Thanbor which is the hill on which the fort is located and Ran, which is a hill closer to it. This huge fort encompasses an area of about 7 km in circumference. Built in 944 AD by a Chauhan warrior, Ranthambore fort is one of the oldest and most difficult forts to overthrow. It bravely repulsed the attempts of many great warriors such as Alaudin Khilji, Kutub-ud-din, Feroz Tughlaq, Bahadur Shah of Gujarat from being occupied. Rao Hammir was the most victorious ruler in the 11th century. In the late 19th century, Mughals presented the fort to the Maharaja of Jaipur.it then remained with the royal family of Jaipur, and the nearby dense forest became their favorite hunting reserve. It is said that over ten thousand women once committed johar or self-immolation when the Muslim invader Ala-ud-din Khilji laid siege on this fort in 1303. The fort houses a small temple in its premises dedicated to lord Ganesha, which attracts hordes of tourists through out the year.

    Jogi Mahal
    The charming Forest Rest House, Jogi Mahal is located at the foot of the Ranthambore fort and overlooks the pretty Padam Talab. It boasts of the second-largest Banyan tree in India.

    Dastkar Craft Center
    Located near a tiny village called Kutalpuw, which is about 3 km from Ranthambore National Park, Dastkar Craft Centre is an excellent place to buy blocks printed bed spreads, pottery and assortment of handmade fabrics. The center has been set up to provide employment to the women and make them independent. They are trained here to make patchwork quilting and appliqué .The entire products are of high quality and fairly priced.

    Padam Talao
    The tranquil Padam Talao is the biggest lake in Ranthambore National Park. The lake derives its name from water lilies that covers the lake in season time. Padam Talao is a haven for bird watching.

    Kachida Valley
    The verdant Kachida valley, located close to the outskirts of the park has many rocky outcrops and low hills. A majority of Panther population of the park thrives in the deep jungles of Kachida valley. The area also has a good population of bears. The ideal mode of transport to visit the area is a jeep.

    Lakarda & Anantpura
    Located in the Northwestern and Northern regions of the park, Lakarda and Anantpura area are the ideal place for spotting Sloth Bears.

    Raj Bagh
    It is a ruined edifice located midst Padam Talab (lake) and the Raj Bagh Talab. The ancient stone structure arches, palace outhouses, domes and steps serve as a reminder of the bygone era.

    Malik Talab
    It is the smallest lake in Ranthambore National Park, Malik Talab attracts hordes of migratory birds during winters. It is also an ideal place for seeing tigers, Indian Marsh Crocodiles and rich aquatic wildlife.
