Sariska Tiger Reserve is situated in the Alwar district of Rajasthan in the northwestern part of India. Surrounded by wooded hills, thick dense forest, undulating plateau lands and wide valleys, Sariska is primarily home to the royal Indian tigers. The reserve encompasses an area of 866 sq. km. The lush green forests with in the reserve were once a part of the erstwhile Alwar State and maintained as the hunting grounds for the royalty. In order to preserve the rich flora and fauna, it was declared a sanctuary in 1955 and became a National Park in 1979 .The park is home to numerous carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Civets Hyena, Jackal, and Tiger. The wildlife also includes Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. Home to many amazing resident and migratory birds like Peafowl, Grey Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden backed Woodpecker, crested Serpent Eagle and The Great Indian horned Owl, Sariska is known for its large population of Rhesus Monkeys, which are found around Talvriksh. The Reserve came in to picture in the mid 1980 when the population of tigers suddenly plunged from 45 to 16 in a single year due to poaching.

The easiest way to see the wildlife is to drive along the road from Sariska to Pandupole. There are very good prospects of seeing a tiger around the artificial water reservoirs placed along the main roads of the park. Sariska Tiger Reserve remains open almost whole year around except July and August, when the animals retreat to higher ground. The perfect time to visit the park is from October to April.
