Shopping in Pelling can be a real rush and a wonderful experience, especially when you walk up towards the middle and upper part of the town where the real action is. Here you will find yourself gleefully cavorting through souvenir shops and bistros promising goods and food that look and sound equally exotic. Lower Pelling also offers great buys in a small handicraft centre where you will find lots of Bhutia and Lepcha clothes and souvenirs.

Things to do in Pelling

Rabdentse was the seat of the second capital of the then princely state of Sikkim. It became the second capital of Sikkim after the second Chogyal (nullmonarch) shifted his royal base from Yuksom in 1670 to this very place. Bounded by a valley thickly overgrown with virgin forests, Rabdentse Ruins is really a remarkable sight. Even the leisurely walk to the ruins will take you through a scenic route that will seem like a poetic illustration out of a fairy tale, with goldfish-filled placid lakes and exotic species of orchids giving you company all the way. The parapet of the former capital affords some of the most spectacular views of the misty mountains beyond. The best time to visit this ruins would be the spring season when the whole valley comes alive, enhancing the splendor of the destination by greater levels.

How to reach Pelling

Surface - Pelling is just 10 kilometers (null.21 miles) away from Geyzing, the district headquarter, from where you can avail public bus services at regular intervals. The roads are pretty smooth as the growing ingress of tourists has given way to their improvement and the erection of newer and better accommodations. Buses and jeeps are also available for visitors who want to get in through Gangtok, which is 125 kilometers (null.67 miles) away and Siliguri, which is 135 kilometers (null.88 miles) away.

Train - The nearest railhead from Pelling is at the bustling circuit of Siliguri, 135 kilometers (null.88 miles) away from the town.

Air - The nearest airport from Pelling is the Bagdogra Airport or Civil Aerodrome Bagdogra, which is in the town of Bagdogra about 150 kilometers (null.20 miles) away. There is a helipad in Pelling, which however is seldom used.
