Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Mumbai
A Yatra representative will meet you at a location convenient to you in Mumbai and transfer you in an air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel of stay. Check-in at your pre-booked hotel. You are at leisure for the rest of the day to explore at your own pace. Spend the night at your hotel.
Day 2: Aboard Deccan Odyssey train
After breakfast, you have the whole morning at leisure. In the evening, you will be taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai to board the Deccan Odyssey train. Dinner will be served to you onboard.
Deccan Odyssey is a royal luxury train that takes you on a colorful journey across the heart of India, through the land of the brave Marathas. You will journey to the sunny Goan beaches, tour the grand forts and palaces of the Marathas and the Osho Ashram in Pune. See the heritage destinations of Ajanta, Ellora and Aurangabad. And again return to Mumbai. With the scenic and cultural richness of the Deccan, this will truly be one unforgettable Deccan Odyssey!
You can choose from 21 coaches of which 11 are passenger cars with four coupes each. There are 2 Presidential Suite cars with 2 coupes each, besides a conference car and 2 restaurant cars. In addition to a lounge bar and a Spa Car. At the restaurants, you can select from an array of delectable Indian, Continental, Maharashtrian, Goan and Chinese cuisine. Each coach is appointed with all modern amenities to make your journey comfortable.
Day 3: Jaigadh, Ganapatipule, Ratnagiri and Bhatye Beach
In the morning, you will arrive at Jaigadh railway station. After a hearty breakfast onboard, you will be taken to Rai Bhatgaon Jetty for a backwater cruise to the historical fort of Jaigad. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour. Further on, board a coach to explore the finest beach along the Konkan coast. You are at leisure to enjoy a stroll on the beach collecting shells or simply lounge on the golden sand and soak up the sun. Tuck into a lavish lunch at Ganapatipule Beach Resort.
In the afternoon, board the coach back for a sightseeing tour of the historical Ratnagiri town. Ratnagiri is pretty district in the southwestern part of Maharashtra on the Arabian Sea coast. The place is noted for its succulent Alphonso mangoes. After being ruled by the Mauryas, the Nalas, the Silaharas, the Chalukyas, the Kadambas, the Portuguese, the Marathas and subsequently the British, Ratnagiri is even today steeped in history and culture. Take a tour of Ratnadurg Fort, Lokmanya Tilak Smarak and pick up armloads of local artifacts at Ratnagiri Bazaar. Board the Deccan Odyssey back at Ratnagiri Railway station. Spend overnight in the train.
Day 4: Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Sawantwadi
Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast onboard. You will soon arrive at Sindhudurg Nagari railway station. On arrival, you will travel in an air-conditioned coach to Malvan Jetty for a boat cruise to Sindhudurg Sea Fort. Further on, proceed to Tarkarli Beach Resort for a delicious lunch. After lunch, continue on a scenic backwater cruise through the Tarkarli Creek up to Kalse Jetty. Follow it up with a visit to Sawantwadi town by coach. Pan through fabulous lacquer handicrafts, paintings and furniture at Shilpagrama (craftsmen’s village) in the town.
Late in the evening, board the train at Sawantwadi Railway Station. Enjoy your dinner onboard.
Day 5: Goa
In the morning, you will arrive at Karmali in Goa. On arrival, board a coach to Old Goa. Explore the Basilica De Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi that began as a mosque but now is an archaeological museum of Goan antiques. Further on, proceed to Panjim. At Panjim, you will have free time for a stroll around the city and the bazaar, followed by a sumptuous lunch at Fort Aguada Beach Resort. After lunch, visit Dona Paula and the 250-year old house. Don’t miss out the interesting legends associated with Dona Paula.
Late in the evening, board the train from Madgaon railway station. Overnight in the train.
Day 6: Pune
In the morning you will arrive in Kolhapur city, situated on the banks of river Panchaganga.
On arrival, set out on a coach tour of New Palace - a royal palace partly converted into museum and Bhawani Mandap (The Town Hall). Witness traditional Martial Art locally known as “Mardani Khel”, visit the Mahalaxmi Temple - a temple of goddess Ambabai and Shalini Palace built of intricately carved black stone and Italian marble, on the west side of Lake Rankala. Watch a cultural program and browse the handicraft stalls for a perfect memorabilia.
At noon, board the train at Kolhapur railway station and leave for Pune. Lunch will be served to you onboard. You are at leisure in the evening to enjoy the facilities of Deccan Odyssey.
Late in the evening, you will arrive in Pune. On arrival, take a coach ride to Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum housing an impressive collection of artifacts from 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Board the train back from Pune railway station. Enjoy a delectable dinner onboard.
Day 7: Aurangabad
In the morning, you will arrive at Daulatabad station. After a hearty breakfast onboard, travel along the picturesque ruins of Aurangabad and explore the historical fort of Daulatabad. Your next stop will be at Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, comprising 34 cave temples dedicated to three different religions - Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. After exploring the caves and getting an insight into its history, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant. You have some time at leisure to explore around on your own. After lunch, move on to see Bibi-ka-Maqbara, a replica of Taj Mahal and a grand piece of Mughal architecture. In the evening, board the train at Aurangabad railway station. Dinner will be served to you onboard.
Day 8: Ajanta and Nasik
In the morning, you will arrive at Jalgaon railway station. On arrival, set out on a coach tour of Fardapur Resort. After breakfast, proceed to the renowned Buddhist caves of Ajanta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will see some of the finest paintings and sculptures of the 2nd century AD.
At noon, board the train at Bhusalwal railway station and continue to Nashik. Enjoy a lavish lunch onboard.
In the evening, you will arrive at Nashik railway station. Further on, proceed to visit Panchawati Ghat and Sula Winery Yard. Tuck into a scrumptious dinner followed by some heavenly wine at the winery yard. Late in the night, board the train back at Nashik railway station. Spend the night in the train.
Day 9: Mumbai
Enjoy your last breakfast on Deccan Odyssey. Soon you will arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai, where a truly memorable journey will draw to an end.
