Austrian Airlines is the international airlines of Austria. It operates scheduled services to over 130 destinations. Its main base is Vienna International Airport, with a hub at Innsbruck Airport. The sky of Central and Eastern Europe is dominated by Austrian Airlines. Austrian Airlines Group comprises of three partners: Austrian, Lauda Air and Austrian arrows.
Founded through the merger of Air Austria and Austrian Airways on September 30, 1957, Austrian Airlines went for it s first flight on March 18, 1958 when a Vickers Viscount 779 took off from Vienna for London. However, Austrian Airlines started its transatlantic services in the year 1969 when it flew to New York from Vienna.
Austrian Airlines serves together with their partners Lauda Air and Austrian arrows 130 destinations worldwide. Austrian Airlines has been in cooperation with Russian airline alliance AiRUnion since 19 February 2007.
On October 25, 1997, Austrian Airlines provided its first non-stop connection to Delhi. Austrian Airlines operated twice a week in the year 1997 using an airbus A310. This twice-weekly service has turned into daily flights with Delhi being served by a Boeing 777 in the winter. However, Mumbai got incorporated as the second Indian city in the Austrian schedule. Austrian airlines started operating five flights a week in September 2005. Around 26,000 passengers used the service to India in the first year itself and now Austrian Airlines carries over 200,000 passengers a year to India.
