Tourist Attractions in Finland

St. Olaf's Castle, Olavinlinna: Founded in 1475, this magnificent 500-year-old castle is among Finland's most well known tourist attractions. It is comprised of the main castle, three towers and a bailey with a surrounding wall reinforced by towers. It also houses interesting orthodox museum in the castle grounds displaying Russian Orthodox artifacts from Finland and Russia.

Senaatintori, The Senate Square: Located in the center of Helsinki, Senaatintori Square houses the palace of the Senate, as well as the main building of the University of Helsinki, both of which were designed by the famous architect Carl. L. Engel. The center of the square has a statue of Emperor Alexander II. Know for its impressive neo classical architecture, it is one of the most beautiful squares in the world.

Soumenlinna: Standing on a group of six islands, this imposing fortress was built in 1740’s to secure Helsinki from Russian attacks that had plagued outside the city’s harbor. Popularly referred to as “The Gibraltar of the North”, Soumenlinna is one of the largest forts in the world. Today, it houses museums, gardens, parks, cafes and a couple of restaurants.
