Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport), built during World War II as an Air Force Station, serves the city of New Delhi. Its passenger traffic has doubled since the past one decade. Ranked as the 8th largest airport in the world, IGI Airport is home to state-of-the-art facilities. New Delhi Airport was initially named as Palam Airport and was renamed as Indira Gandhi International Airport in 1986. The airport is the biggest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic. It is located in Palam, 16 km from New Delhi city center. IGI Airport has been named as the No. 1 Airport in Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards in 2014.

Terminals Trivia

Indira Gandhi Airport has two active passenger terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 is divided into Terminal 1-C, which is used for domestic arrivals, and Terminal 1-D, which is used for departures. Terminal 1 can handle 10 million passengers per year. Terminal 3, one of the biggest terminals in the world, can accommodate around 40 million passengers per year. All international flights are operated from T3 and domestic flights are operated from T1 or T3, depending on the airlines. Low-cost airlines such as GoAir, IndiGo, and SpiceJet are operated from Terminal 1, while the other airlines are operated from T3.
