Tiruchirappalli International Airport, Trichy

Trichy or Tiruchirappalli International Airport serves Tiruchirappalli in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the Tiruchirappalli-Pudukkottai National Highway, which is about 5 km south of the main city. It is the second largest airport in handling international passengers in Tamil Nadu next to Chennai. The airport was built during the World War II and was primarily used by British Air force. The airport is ISO 9001:2008 quality certified. On 4th October 2012, it was declared as an International airport. It is the 10th busiest international airport in India with an average of 2200 to 2500 international passengers on a daily basis.

Terminals Trivia

The airport has two terminals adjacent to each other. The old terminal has been converted into an international cargo complex. The two-storied passenger terminal has been integrated to handle both domestic and international passengers. It has a capacity to handle 0.49 million passengers per annum and 470 peak hour passengers. But due to increased traffic this is becoming insufficient. So expansion is being done at the Trichy Airport and the new terminal should be able to handle 2200 international and 500 domestic passengers at the same time.

Shop, Eat, and Relax

The Tiruchirappalli International Airport has many facilities available for the passengers. There are a number of snack and tea stalls for the passengers to enjoy some refreshments while they wait for their flights. To make it easy for travelers, the airport has facilities like ATMs, drinking water, wheelchair, telephone, Wi-Fi, and free trolleys for the use of commuters. Free medical service is also available.

The airport has two lounges, namely the VIP lounge and the Commercial Important Persons (CIP) lounge, both managed by AAI. There is also a smoking lounge for passengers.
