Beautiful place, with beach on one side and the backwaters on the other side. Very remote all together. Good get away from city life. While swimming make sure that the season is safe to swim. The manager of the place took great care of us and made our stay memorable, so a big thanks to him. The accommodation is basic, don't expect any luxury. Food served was local and delicious. Good holiday stay for families and groups of friends. Unique place in Kerala.

A wonderful stay for my wife and I. The staff managing the property Mr. Vijayan, Mrs. Gauri and Mr. Raju, ensured that we were comfortable. Thenon-site managers, the Rajus and their family are kind, attentive and warm. I add comments under the following categories: Room: With attached toilet/bath was comfortable though I recommend that the installment of meshes on the vents to ensure that they be thoroughly mosquito free. Amenities: Water, electricity, internet fully adequate Food: Excellent! Kerala style fare, home-cooked and delicious with ample variety. I recommend a variation in the abundance of fruits, coconut water, and tender coconut be added to the fare Activities and Entertainment: Taking commuter ferry rides, swimming, long walks through the village, visiting the friendly and hospitable villagers, attending the cultural performances during Vishu (new year) and Theyyam worship, visiting the neighboring town (Thrikaripur) church, and simply resting made for a memorable, invigorating stay

We had no choice but to stay overnight as our bookings were abruptly cancelled by Travelguru and since we were families with children, we checked in to avoid further travel in the night. Mr. Vijay the manager charged us exorbitantly knowing our plight. Took three rooms. Small cramped up rooms with flimsy doors. The sheets, pillow cases, and towels were smelly. Cupboards and table were dusty and could not be used. Sad place!! The rooms and toilets looked totally down and dilapidated. No hot water facility. Upon request, you will get hot water in buckets. Each of our family waited for long to get hot water. Tiles, toilet, and sink, all are stained and dirty. The property is not maintained at all. The only plus point is access to the beach. No people at all on the shore. Had to park our cars little away from the property due to the fear of falling coconuts. The place is surrounded by coconut trees. Dangerous to sit out late evening or night as crabs crawl around. Lots of creepy insects too. Not advisable for families especially with kids around. The dinner was served upstairs, rooftop. We had asked the manager to arrange for dinner.. Roof was no fancy dinner place. Plastic chairs and table. Dirty and unkempt. The approach to roof was scary, broken ladder. Nothing great, simple kerala food. Seriously not worth the money. We regretted the stay. We should have looked elsewhere. Hoping they get this place in order.

A very difficult place to find it is vital to have the phone number of the manager before you set off. We called him, gave the phone to the tuktuk driver and eventually we arrived. As the driver pulled into the driveway my wife and I both said, simultaneously, no this can't be it! The downsides first......probably triggered by our expectation of the 4000rps per night full board that we'd paid in advance. A rather dilapidated single storey building surrounded by coconut palms and agricultural debris. It does have a wood store type shack that is used for the dining area, but luckily we weren't asked to use it. The rooftop terrace has now been reopened but it is reached by an unlit, steep rickety wooden staircase and the terrace roof has disappeared, I assume it suffered some storm damage in the past however a temporary material roof has been tied up to give you some shelter from falling palm branches and coconuts. The veranda at the rear of the property, where the bedrooms are located is shabby and covered in sand and weeds growing between the slabs. It is has sunk in areas too making it a little dangerous in the dark. The room was probably the biggest disappointment though. It had not been cleaned well recently and the window nets were stuck on by an assortment of gaffer tape and velcro. The old rusty metal wardrobe was filthy and we had to wipe it out and line it with plastic bags before we could use it. The bathroom was adequate but the wall tiles were only staying on the wall by luck and neither of us dared touch the tiles by the shower incase they all fell off. The hot water never did work on any of the four days although the manager did bring us pots of hot water in the evening for a bucket bath. The upsides.... The situation, although in a poor state of repair and cleanliness, is in an idyllic setting sandwiched between the Indian Ocean and the backwater. The beach is endless and empty of people, the ocean is rough, with strong tides and currents especially when whipped into a frenzy by the strong winds in the afternoon. A very difficult place to swim even if you are a strong swimmer. We managed to spend plenty of time enjoying ourselves in the water but mostly just jumping through the crashing waves. A dangerous place if you are not fit and strong. The backwater is very quiet with almost no water traffic except a regular ferry service. This is a great way to see the whole area, which is huge, without spending a fortune. I think we spent 4 hours travelling all the way to Payyanur and back for 48rps in total. The food was excellent, the lady cook (sadly I've forgotten her name)was very good and we ate different local dishes every mealtime. Getting tea or coffee always seemed a bit of a trial although it did materialise eventually. Vijay, the manager, went out of his way to make the best of our visit and was always asking if we were happy, but didn't really want any constructive feedback. Conclusion Would I go back? No, would I recommend it? No. In truth, there are better places, easier to get to, cleaner, better maintained with better views of the ocean and backwaters at half the price. Although I was really looking forward to going there I'd rather have stayed where we were at Thottada Beach.

Stopped over for a very short stay. Arrived in time to catch the beautiful sunset and the feast on the beauty of beach. This Homestay is on a splendid location, basic accommodation with wonderful hospitality and great food. A bit more focus on cleaning would help. April and May is a challenge as the tropical heat can kill your sleep. Sans that this is a lovely place to stay and have a peaceful break.
