We managed to get room 101 and it was huge, it was lovely to stay in a village away from the hustle and bustle. The staff were excellent, cold beer and hot food. An interesting place to stay with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. I think that a few tables and chairs scattered around the roof top would have been lovely.

If your looking for the real India in a quiet village then this is the place. Only a part of the palace is used for the hotel but there are renovations in the process to extend. Very helpful lovely staff, beautiful airy a/c rooms with a lovely bathroom, the views across the countryside are breathtaking especially from the roof terrace and the food was exceptional. The people of the village are very used to travellers wandering through their village and are very friendly wanting to say hello and talk to us. The children definately put the biggest smiles on our faces wanting their photos taken and to play cricket in the grounds of the palace. The owner is a politician and seems to have given a lot back to the people of the village. Alipura is a place you must visit.

Only a small section of this huge palace has been restored..... it has echoes of the Best Exotic Marigold hotel. The rooms and ensuites are huge and are equipped with both air conditioning and fans. The roof top terrace is nice and cool of an evening. The in-house restaurant serves excellent food.

We stopped at the palace at Alipur for lunch on the way from Jhansi to Khajuraho. The approach road was making us wonder where we were going. But then we saw the palace. It is a quaint palace which can be done up to look better and more royal. But still had the old world charm. We came to know that you could stay here also. The lunch was vegetarian and had some good local preparations like kadhi pakora.
