My family and I visited this place on our drive back to Bangalore. The place is hard to miss, there is GIANT puttu kudam (vessel for preparing puttu) at the entrance and is an attraction in itself. We were in around 8 A.M. and the place was 70% full. We managed to secure a spot looking out towards a massive pond almost a lake, with Water Lillies. We did not ask for the Menu, and generally asked for the items that were 'Ready'. We got options from Puttu, Appams and Dosas. The curry options were, Beef, Chicken, Egg and Veg Stew. We ordered 5 dishes + Appams, varied combinations. The food was served with 5 persponal curry pots and 20 Appmas in all. The Appams were really soft and with the rich curry just tasted awesome. Really authentic Kerala kicthen flavors. Unmistakable aroma. Too good. And the kicker was the price, with coffees thrown in it worked out to just about 200Rs per head. Fantastic!... Must visit, I'm for sure gonna stop over next time I head that way. Highly Recommended.

The journey started wrong. I booked a Deluxe Room with breakfast at Avees through Trip Advisor and Cleartrip. I paid on-line. (Trip id: 14103011095). I called the resort to confirm as I always do. (I had problems with booking online earlier; not with Cleartrip). Avees informed me theyve no room for me. I called Cleartrip. After some delay I was told a room was available. Avees confirmed. We were in for a rude shock. The small wood crate of a windowless room was not our idea of a deluxe room. Cleartrip did not inform me of the change made in my room selection, the condition of the room I was getting, the fact that the actual rent is lesser than what I was charged originally (I confirmed it with the resort) or offer a refund of the balance. Cleartrip behaved unfairly and unprofessionally. Avees is a small-conference center, rather than a resort. For holding a small meeting (I attended one during our stay.) the place is good. The food, compared to the fare we usually get at meeting buffets, was far better, authentically ethnic. But the conference infrastructure spoils the charm the place might have had earlier. It is in the rural Kuttand heartland. The locale is picturesque. But the streets are not really good for a leisurely walk along the river; at least during this season, they are muddy. The heritage room we got was a converted wooden barn. No window, no balcony, no view. (My review and ranking is based on this room.) No hot shower, no mirror in the bath. Comfortable bed, but just one chair. Hardly any space to move in the room. Do not forget your toilet bag. You get no toiletries. If you go to Avees do not take the heritage room. In all fairness, I must state that Avees initially told me that they do not have a room for me. They might have provided this room because of Cleartrip pressure. The price Cleartrip charged was far too high for the room. No restaurant, no bar, no alcoholic drinks. Avees runs a reputed restaurant 3 or 4 kms away. One can order from the restaurant menu and have the food delivered to the room. The saving grace was the efficient friendly and helpful staff. To compensate the difficulties we faced they served a fabulous complimentary dinner. Where else in India do you see a waiter politely refusing a tip?

Superb service,Good ambiance. We have visited at many resorts over the years, often luxury ones with impeccable details and fantastic designs. Price-wise Avees River Gardens is on par with these better-class Resorts.
