A very nice homestay
by Steba G on
This accommodation is very pretty and just behind the beach. The place is touristy untouched and the fishermen work on the beach. There are a few shops nearby, but otherwise you have pure nature here. You live in the village. The family is very nice and helpful and above all the food is very delicious. Melvin's mother and wife are cooking here. Imagine a nice stay outside of tourism.

We have seen this house and just looking for something to eat, they invite us and was very good. For 100rs each WE had fish with rice, omelett and curry, thank you for this opportunity :) The place is close to the beach ans very quiet.
The best a Kerala home stay can offer you :)

If you want to experience the real Kerala beach side day to day life, Arthunkal Beach Villa is the place to be. Situated Just beside the Arthunkal beach, this place is a keeper. The owner Melvin and his family are the most wonderful and helpful folks you will come across. Usually, they make the arrangement on their top floor where there are two rooms. The rooms are well furnished and spacious. The ambience will surely won't let you miss your own room. There small shared balcony is the place where you can easily spend hours after hours with the new book you have been trying to finish lately :) And you don't need to worry about their bathroom as well. Another interesting part of the property is that you have plenty of space to dry your cloths. Melvin's Mom was too sweet to take care of our laundry herself. Although we insisted not to take the pain for us. But mothers- you can never beat them with your logic or reasons :) They can provide full 3 times meal a day if you inform them before hand. Melvin's mom is the most Amazing cook I had come across during my 11 days stay in Kerala. If you are hesitant to try the local cuisines, please start here :) On a different note, Arthunkal or Marari beaches are very laid back beaches with almost no activity. It is safe and you can spend hours after hours without any nuisance from the vendors. We were there during the new year's eve. Only one incident that bothered us was a group of young street kids came shouting to us and started harassing us for cigarette while we were returning from the New year's mass. I am sure it was nothing to worry about. If you have any doubt about your plans of movements, Melvin is the guy to make your life smooth :)
Very nice stay at Arthunkal Beach.

When we booked at Arthunkal Beach Villa Homestay, we wanted to have a rest on a beach after a long trip across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Our stay in this homestay was beyond our expectation. The house is a few meters from the huge beach of Arthunkal, far away from the main road but easy to reach. Melvin and his family are wonderful people. The meals were the best we had during our long journey in India. The room is comfortable with AC, large bathroom. The bed is comfortable. We had very long walk along the beach and we met a lot of fishermen early in the morning. Get there too at the end of the afternoon for sunset. You'll feel very good in Arthunkal Beach Villa and when you walk in the peaceful village you'll notice that the people over here are very friendly. Don't miss the visit of the church ! This is a must and if you have to visit one church in India, it's that one ! Bikers : ask Melvin to show you his Royal Enfield...!
The most amazing start to our India adventure.

This was a wonderful introduction to India. This homestay was simply perfect. The host, Melvin and his family were incredibly welcoming, they have created two rooms above their home which gives wonderful views from the small veranda to the beach and the sea beyond. It was quite idyllic. Melvin's mother and wife will provide meals for you on request, and I have to say that they could not be beaten. The food was plentiful and amazing quality, real home cooked food and great value. When I arrived I thought the room quite basic, however after spending three weeks travelling around I now realise it was quite comfortable for accommodation of this type. The bed was clean and comfy (all beds in India are very firm). the family and locals in the fishing village were all very welcoming. It was amazing to be the only people on the beach other than the working fisherman. Melvin's family keep the beach in front of the villa quite clean and we even swam in the sea daily. I could easily have stayed longer, Christmas day was a blast and we had so much fun meeting some of Melvin's closest friends and truly feeling part of the family at Christmas. I would love to come back to this unspoilt and still very natural part of India.
There are two rooms upstairs, both the same. There is some noise between the thin walls.
