I believe one needs to stay with the locals for exploring the place in true sense. Found this place listed on Air Bnb and after considering all options in Allepey in the budget, booked it for 2 nights. We were 4 adults and 2 kids and had booked 3 bedrooms. The place was exactly as described as well as photographed. The interiors had been meticulously done up, clean linen, spacious bathroom and good bathroom fittings. We found the common area ideal for morning and evening tea/coffee, which was complimentary. The kids had ample space to run around and play. It would be unfair to go on without description of hosts, Jesse and Shibu and their talented daughter Pooja. Even though they are into the business of homestay we didn't find any intent to make money out of us. It was our pleasure to find this genuine family. Jesse has good contacts and she arranged for Ayurvedic massage on our request and they even picked us up and dropped us back. She arranged shikara trip on backwaters for a nominal price which we realised when other agents approached us. To top it all she's an outstanding cook, which was one of our attractions of Kerala trip. The deal included complimentary breakfast and we tried appam and green peas curry on Day 1 and Idli on Day 2. The best part of the stay was the dinner. On day 1 we ordered for prawn curry and fish fry(mackerel). It was served with various veg dishes. On Day 2 she prepared crab curry and chicken fry. The meals were decently priced at 250/person for adults and 150 for kids. Pooja, their daughter surprised us with her dance performance after dinner. While seeing us off, Jesse presented us with a houseboat souvenir. Overall, it was an amazing experience to stay with them and have home cooked local cuisine, served with love and getting the treatment of a guest in their house.

Very nice and beautiful place to stay with an very friendly hosting family. Clean, nice interior, calm and surprisingly cheap - plus: super close by the beach. Totally recommendation! Fyi: its very helpful to rent a scooter while your stay to get easier around. The host helped us organizing one fast and easy. Thanks.

Make sure you arrange cycles before you get there, from Jessy Aunty. It was super fun riding around Marari. You can visit Granma restaurant nearby for good homely food. You'l need to order special seafood (prawns, squid etc) in advance. The beach is a 10 minute walk from the homestay. Other places to eat other than Granma's is difficult to find in Marari, so you'll have to plan that in advance. The rooms are super clean and the bathroom especially was spotless and had a rain shower. There's a church next door that had celebrations going on and the music was annoying and was played early in the morning and throughout the evening.

If you're traveling to Alleppey and not planning to stay in a boathouse, then this will be the place that you're looking at. The homestay was an amazing modern Kerala house and Jessy Chechi was a great host of the house. She's living in the same compound with her husband and a little girl, Pooja. They welcomed us with great hospitality and made us feel at home. She prepared simple Kerala dinner (paid meals) and breakfast the next morning (for free!!). She directed us to the nearest sightseeing and souvenir shops. We went to the nearest Mararari Mahadevan Temple for an evening prayer and was served Chapati and dhal gravy with cucumber salad when we're back to the homestay. The house was very clean and amazingly maintained. There's 4 rooms and a balcony for yoga and Surya Namaskar. The only regret was staying there for only one night!
