We stayed here for 2 nights and this is an exceptional place to stay. It is quite remote and is on one of the backwaters and was reached by canoe. The rooms are comfortable and the food was very good and the service is excellent. It is a very relaxing place to stay and there are good walks from the homestay. The owner is a charming man and is very interesting to talk to. It is an ideal place to relax at.

We loved every minute of our stay with Mr Chacko and family. We were made to feel very welcome, enjoying our meals in their house and a cookery demonstration of how to prepare local dishes. We also enjoyed walking around the local canals and villages and watching amazing birds in the beautiful garden.

We enjoyed two nights at Nelpura at the end of our stay in India and what a pleasure it was. Our hosts were most accommodating and helped us sort our plans for the last days of our holiday as well as organising trips to local school, canoe trip and running an introduction to Keralan cooking. The accommodation is is a delightful traditional Keralan building enhancing the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere in this part of the backwaters. The access to and from the property by canoe or ferry only adds to the attraction.. Highly Recommended.

Exceptional typical Kerala house and homestay in the backwaters. Gentle owners. The owner is a pharmacology college professor wit strong local involvement for his community. He is eager to discuss with his vast knowledge and to learn from your perspective durung the meal .His wife Samila is a mother of three and a chemistry school teacher. This place is a little paradise on earth with plenty of water birds, education, luxurious nature. Samilla created her garden herself.. Ideal place to rest for some days, cycle around, do some boat trip, enjoy a school visit, certainly to be recommended if you want to see and live among the (highly educated) Kerala backwater people. It was for us an opportunity to observe the so many similarities between different cultures. Sincerely recommended. You have to take a boat (10 roupies) to reach the homestay which is not so easy to find ... if you go there for the first time (tel 0477 270 2336)

Nelpura Homestay was the halfway mark of our Kerala experience and the ideal location to relax in its lush green gardens. We were welcomed by manager, Mangela, who proved to be a hospitable and efficient part of this beautiful homestay. We arrived by a motor canoe along the narrow backwaters and shown to our room in the old granary building. The decor was amazing and the room comfortable and spacious. After a peaceful hour swinging in hammocks we took the map and walked around the rice fields, went on a tuk tuk ride to the village and saw the oldest Syrian Church and a temple. An early morning canoe trip along the canals showed the activities of the locals washing their clothes and bathing. Prof Chacko and Selima are wonderful hosts and we were served the most delicious Keralan meals during our stay..............2 nights were not long enough!
