We were strolling on Alleppety beach when our guide asked us to try Raheem residency as we were planning to shift to a better hotel. We went to their restaurant for a tea and evening snacks. Guys, we were treated differently as they were more keen to serve the foreigners with beers!! No water was given and we had to ask for it. Whereas to the foreigners who showed up after us, they provided napkins, cutleries, water and even wi-fi password. God, this is 2018, India and we were in the most sought after tourist place. God bless you with wisdom!!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in May 2018. From the time that the taxi driver arranged through the hotel met us at the airport until the time we left the hotel, the staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The rooms are colonial in style with fantastic carved wooden four poster beds and plenty of space. The bathrooms are equally spacious with a good supply of hot water, although some of the fittings could do with being replaced. The air conditioning could occasionally be a little temperamental and was essential given the humidity, but overall worked well. The rooms do not have all of the clean lines and mod-cons of a modern chain hotel, but that simply added to the charm. Because we were staying for a full two weeks, we were offered a change of room (with upgrade to an open-air shower) for the second week, which was very thoughtful. As it was near the end of the holiday season when we stayed, there were times when we were virtually the only guests and it was like having our own private hotel and pool, the latter of which was kept impeccably clean and provided a fabulous relief to the heat and humidity. It was also lovely to sit and enjoy a ginger lime cordial or a beer in the peaceful surroundings of the pool area, away form the bustle of the beach and beach road, watching the lizards and birdlife including kingfishers. All of the staff were responsive and friendly without being over-attentive and were happy to chat with us and provide ideas for places to visit. The hotel's location is beautiful. We sat and ate a great breakfast, and often our evening meal, overlooking the Arabian sea and Alleppey beach, with mango and coconut trees in the foreground. Unfortunately, although the beach is huge and we found it to be pretty clean, the shoreline is very steep with strong undercurrents and too dangerous for swimming. During our stay we were not bothered at all by noise from the construction of the flyover and it is high enough not to spoil the views from the hotel. It is a fair walk along busy roads (without pavements) to get to the centre of Alleppey, but we enjoyed wandering along the various streets heading towards town, just to take in the local surroundings. However, when it is too hot, or if in more of a hurry, a tuk-tuk only costs about 1 each way and is great fun. I would strongly recommend exploring the fishing villages along the shoreline to either side of the hotel a mile or so along the beach as well, either on foot or using the two bicycles that the hotel has available for the use of its guests. Finally, I have to commend the chef and the restaurants in general. Chakara is the main elevated restaurant, with a slightly more extensive (and expensive) menu, and was our preferred although because the hotel was so quiet, it was not always open. The Harbour restaurant is outdoor, but covered, and situated right opposite the beach. A word of warning though, apply liberal insect repellent to your ankles as there are sandflies and other biting insects in the sand after dusk!. The hotel restaurants are a little more expensive than many of the others that can be found, but not significantly so, and the food is fantastic and well presented. The chef and restaurant staff take particular pride in producing dishes using the traditional Keralan spices, but there is a greater variety available. We of course tried other restaurants in the town and along the beach area, but often ended up eating at the hotel restaurant in the evening because of the quality of the food and it is worth noting that many of the other local restaurants do not have a license to sell alcohol. We were particularly interested in the local seafood and the chef was kind enough to source local fish for us that wasn't on the standard menu and to cook it in traditional Keralan style on more than one occasion. The banquet that the hotel provided us with on our final night was absolutely amazing and a perfect demonstration of how well looked after we had felt throughout our stay. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone looking for something special and authentic.

We came into town rather late on our first night in Alleppey. The manager where we stayed recommended the restaurant at Raheem Residency because they served dinner late and had great food! We were not disappointed! After a short scooter drive from where we were staying at the Alleppey beach garden we saw the sparkling lights coming from the restaurant.(The funny thing is that I actually told my boyfriend, on our way to the hotel, that I would love to eat there as we passed it by car earlier that day. It looked so inviting and charming and was perfectly located by the beach) The waiter greeted us and we were seated at a comfortable table. There was no air condition, but it didnt matter because of the fans. The lights in the ceiling created a lovely and romantic atmosphere. We ordered fish curry and chicken mappas served with rice and chappati. It was the best food wed had in India - and the food in India had been great! For drinks we had beer and this ginger-lime-soda which was fun to mix up and tasted great! Our bill was 1,200 INR and it was worth every bit of it! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Alleppey! Good service, lovely atmosphere and food worth dying for!

Stayed in this hotel for a night with my family on last friday. Plus are hotel is just opposite beach so cannot beat the location. Minus are public transport like autos, buses are very few on the beach road so need to walk half a kilo meter to the auto stand. They charged 3500Rs for a night stay which i thought is bit high for that village. I did not attempt to eat in the hotel restuarent since i felt it might be expensive. Hotel has a lovely swimming pool and my kids enjoyed for some time. They did provide extra cot for free of charge when asked which is nice and AC seems to be working fine all night and no issues. Rating for hotel : 6/10

The staff here were kind and helpful but there just wasn't enough staff! You couldn't find someone when you needed someone unfortunately. The hotel was charming and the restaurant was tasty but the wifi mostly did not work and there was very little helpful advice concerning Allepy. Understaffed, dirty bathroom and the grounds were not kept well. Unfortunately, the town is building an elevated highway between the hotel and the beach and, therefore, construction was loud. Also, the bar next door resulted in me almost getting vomited on by a drunk patron as I walked past. The security guards at the hotel were awesome, though, and I felt safe.
