We came into town rather late on our first night in Alleppey. The manager where we stayed recommended the restaurant at Raheem Residency because they served dinner late and had great food! We were not disappointed! After a short scooter drive from where we were staying at the Alleppey beach garden we saw the sparkling lights coming from the restaurant.(The funny thing is that I actually told my boyfriend, on our way to the hotel, that I would love to eat there as we passed it by car earlier that day. It looked so inviting and charming and was perfectly located by the beach) The waiter greeted us and we were seated at a comfortable table. There was no air condition, but it didnt matter because of the fans. The lights in the ceiling created a lovely and romantic atmosphere. We ordered fish curry and chicken mappas served with rice and chappati. It was the best food wed had in India - and the food in India had been great! For drinks we had beer and this ginger-lime-soda which was fun to mix up and tasted great! Our bill was 1,200 INR and it was worth every bit of it! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Alleppey! Good service, lovely atmosphere and food worth dying for!

Stayed in this hotel for a night with my family on last friday. Plus are hotel is just opposite beach so cannot beat the location. Minus are public transport like autos, buses are very few on the beach road so need to walk half a kilo meter to the auto stand. They charged 3500Rs for a night stay which i thought is bit high for that village. I did not attempt to eat in the hotel restuarent since i felt it might be expensive. Hotel has a lovely swimming pool and my kids enjoyed for some time. They did provide extra cot for free of charge when asked which is nice and AC seems to be working fine all night and no issues. Rating for hotel : 6/10

The staff here were kind and helpful but there just wasn't enough staff! You couldn't find someone when you needed someone unfortunately. The hotel was charming and the restaurant was tasty but the wifi mostly did not work and there was very little helpful advice concerning Allepy. Understaffed, dirty bathroom and the grounds were not kept well. Unfortunately, the town is building an elevated highway between the hotel and the beach and, therefore, construction was loud. Also, the bar next door resulted in me almost getting vomited on by a drunk patron as I walked past. The security guards at the hotel were awesome, though, and I felt safe.

Getting there: We got a taxi from Cochin to Alleppey, so 58km of interesting roads and towns took Id say 2 hours, beach road where the Raheem residency was located was inaccessible due to road works so it took the driver a while to figure out how to access the building but he did - had to pay a bit more due to the mystery he had to unravel with the roads. History: So the Raheem Residency has long been on our radar because its owned by the red haired, Donegal Gaeilgeoir (native Irish language speaker), female ex TV presenter named Bibi Baskin. So no she doesnt live there, she lives in Dublin and she invested in it with 2 brothers from Trivandrum (capital of Kerala). The house had once belonged to a well off Muslim merchant family and when Bibi & co. took it on it needed serious renovation plus they installed a swimming pool and converted some rooms into Ayurvedic treatment rooms. Food: There are 2 restaurants on site which have a good name, although we didnt bring our kids to the dearer upstairs one but it did double as the breakfast room. The food in the downstairs restaurant we mainly used was nice enough. Open to public, regular a la carte menu, good selection, not that the kids had anything other than pasta or chips. We worked our way through the vegetarian selection. Service by multilingual Noby and team was good but it could take time for the food to come, fine by us but not the kids so we played a lot of cards games to occupy them, which worked well. Rooms: Decor and soft furnishings in the rooms were lovely and tastefully done but it's time for new baths. Family rooms didn't seem to be an option (via booking, com), I did email about them too but no one mentioned fold up beds for kids and yet an UK family we met there were given fold up beds for their kids, so I think I may have made extra expense for myself by paying for 2 rooms. We also used the laundry service which dearer than I expected. Locale: Across the road is the beach, which, as Indian beaches go, was nice but had still litter strewn. Indian Ocean looked very rough so couldnt imagine going in. Kids did try paddling/wave running away. Kite flying was thing to do there which looked good. We went a couple of evenings and had ice creams and also got chatting to people who wanted selfies with us. Also nearby was a very interesting working lighthouse with a small museum beside it displaying the progression of light house lights. Raheem recommended to just go to the dock and pick a boat for backwater cruise no need to book with them. (Also did not need to go at crack of dawn.) Ayurveda: On our last day in Alleppey my 7yo girl and I had Ayurvedic massages in the Raheem; I had the shirodhara, where warm oil drops on your forehead and gets massaged into your hair (which I had been dreaming of) plus full body massage for an hour. The girl had full body massage only (shirodhara not recommended for kids) for 30 mins which she loved. Its been a while since I had a massage in Asia and forgot theres no western prudishness and youre totally starkers, bar a paper disposal knickers kind of like you have after you have baby only G-string shape! The masseuse was an older lady who had seen it all and didnt give a crap about big western boobs and flew past them perfunctorily, they are just another body part after all. So once I got over myself I relaxeda bit! It was all very good. So we loved the Raheem and its heritage decor, the staff esp. Noby & co. and kids loved the pool. Summary: The Raheem Residency, Beach Rd., Alleppey Stars: 3 Family suite: No Wifi: Terrible/Free Car service: No Pool: Heated/outdoor Food: Good / medium Service: Standard Free Extras: No Spa/Massage on site: Yes Recommend/Would go back: Yes

We had a very nice experience at Raheem residency! The hotel is stunning, we have been in a deluxe double room. Beautiful small details, very traditional furniture. Nice pool to use. Only negative point is the location. The beach in front is not clean and the sea is not beautiful. They are building a highway on the top of the hotel which is a real shame as it is a beautiful hotel. Food was very good and moderate cost. There is an Ayurvedic room but we haven't use it.
