From the moment we arrived at Kalappura Homestay we were treated like welcome friends. The room was clean and fresh and there were extra facilities, like a communal kitchen with fridge, a lounge area and balcony with a table, where we played cards, ate delicious Kerala breakfasts and had interesting chats with Jose, our host. The garden was full of fruit and flowers, plus a cow. We stayed for three nights, before staying in a gorgeous houseboat organised by Jose. While close to the centre of Alleppey, and an easy auto rickshaw ride to anywhere, Kalappura was a peaceful haven for us. Highly recommend.

Excellent homestay! Fantastic host Jose organised activities including boat tours of the famous backwaters. His service was brilliant and they catered for all our needs, including cooking a delicious local Keralan breakfast which could rival any restaurant. Comfortable rooms in a relaxing setting, situated in a residential area near the centre of Alleppey. Would recommend this homestay over any hotels as you have the pleasure of meeting Jose and his lovely family. Thier hospitality and local knowledge make for a rich travelling experience!

This homestay is so great! Great host Jose helped us organise our canoe tour around the backwaters which was amazing and close to the accommodation. Clean, big rooms, with air con and wifi. Jose was very accommodating making us feel at home. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in Alleppey.

I'm a little late to write up my experience at Kalappura (sorry Jose!) We (me and a photographer) visited Kerala in February to research a story on local cuisine for a travel magazine. Although the restaurant food in Kerala is generally pretty delicious, we were having some trouble sourcing truly local family-style cuisine. Having chatted to Jose and told him about our story, he set about cooking two amazing breakfasts for us (the duck mollee with appam was especially memorable). During our stay, he could not have been more helpful with regards to organising transport and also a boat for an afternoon cruise on the backwaters. The accommodation itself is fantastic for the price (clean and comfortable) and the homestay is tucked away in a charming local neighbourhood within easy striking distance of the town. All in all it was an absolute blast and I wish Jose and his family all the best for the future. They deserve it.

This was the second home-stay on our Kerala trip, after spending a night on a house boat we arrived mid morning and we were welcomed by Jose who made us coffee whilst are rooms were prepared and made us feel very welcome. We are then taken to an upstairs room and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. very nice clean bright room with good air con the rooms lead to a communal lounge area and kitchen with kettle and hob and fridge etc. We also had a large balcony area surrounded by palms very peaceful. Jose cooked us an evening meal on request of local dishes which we really enjoyed, Jose is a great host and the family made us feel really welcome we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great stay
