What's Good: Live band, staff, location and view, food

What needs to improve : Gap in curtains, Climbing stairs, separate lavatory and bathroom

Reason For Rating : Excellent experience. The property is managed by the owner himself who rakes great care of its guests and the staff is very helpful. The view from the rooms is beautiful with both sunrise and sunset views from all rooms. The only drawback is that its spread vwryixally so you might have to go down many stairs if your room is towards the end of the property. Food was fantastic and with many options. Will visit again.

  • Our Second Christmas at this delightful Lodge

    by John T on

Mohan has built from scratch home away from home experience. His staff is the best and show ever kindness and help. The food is good although I would suggest bringing along your own meat such as ham/bacon and pork chops and include in your luggage cocktail worthy treats. The rooms are comfortable and the view magnificent. Mohan has made his retreat eco friendly capturing the rainwater. Growing his own organic vegetables and harnessing solar power. If you need a driver from the train station in Kathgowan I suggest you call the driver we have used the last two visits. He knows all the good places to visit from the most popular to the little known. His name is Santosh and he is the most careful and considerate driver you will encounter on the road. Too many insane drivers in a hurry. His cell is 7830552942. You will enjoy talking to Mohan and Puran, Mohan's brother, who hold a wealth of knowledge about the area. You won't go wrong staying here.

  • As usual - It was good

    by 781ankurd on

This time inetial discussion was not very pleasant and I thought that probably this time the stay at Mohan's Retreat would not be as great as it was during my first visit. However everything was as good as it was during 1st Visit. Must appreciate Mr. MOHAN for his personal involvement in ensuring comfortable stay for every guest every time.

  • Super stay!

    by DivyeNayar on

One of the best places to stay in Kasar Devi/Binsar, this gem offers a super view of the valley from all their rooms. Its in-house cafe, Mohans Cafe is one of the oldest cafes in the area and has it own legacy. Almost every dish we had on the menu was top notch! A special mention for their staff who were extremely courteous, polite and went out of the way to make our stay pleasant! The owners Mohan and Pooran too were very helpful and offered useful recommendations on things/treks to do in the area! Good job guys! Keep going!

  • Unforgettable stay, amazing food

    by rajasekhri on

While traveling through Uttrakhand I decided to halt at Kasar Devi but had no booking made for the night. I just dropped into this place and got a room with a special off season discount. The resort endears you at the very first glance. The place is full of beautiful plants and creepers in the lobby and open restaurant area. The use of natural materials like wood, stone and bamboo etc give a very earthly and soulful feel. The open restaurant has a majestic view of Kumaon hills and behind that Himalayas are also visible on a clear-sky day. The rooms are well appointed and have wooden floor, wooden roof and well matched curtains in 3 beautiful natural shades. The special balcony overlooking the hills is the best place to have morning tea and quietly enjoy the view of majestic mountains. The owner Mr Mohan Rayal is extremely passionate about the hospitality business. He has laid special emphasis on quality of food. As a result food is also outstanding just like the property. The service of the staff is top notch 10/10 for service and food. My advice to fellow travelers is that if you are in Uttrakhand, take a detour and make it a point to stay here and visit the very important Kasar Devi temple which is considered most powerful temple of Ma Durga. Btw Swami Vivekananda meditated at this temple in September 1890 and got his illumination here.

  • Awsomeness triplified ! Host/Stay/Food :)

Host:- Mr. Mohan - the Property is in his Name - A pleasant and informative person. Stay - Our stay was quite and serene. We were blessed with Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot (Himalayan Peaks) clear sights. Food- Very generous portion and arrey of menu to choose from. Paneer/Aloo/ Chicken/ European dishes all were tasty. Mr. Mohan insisted on Black Roti- . It was a treat. As such all the rooms in the Property has awsome view - we had a valley view :) The morning is wellspent with the view. A peaceful quiet and enchanting place with excellent WIFI connection - Who would have thought - I could manage my urgent work from 8K Ft. Soft spacious king size bed and a foldable buddy to sleep on for single adult person. It was a memorable stay. The room has a TV - enough cabinets - side lamps - wooden flooring - bathroom slippers. Thank you Mr. Mohan.

  • One has to walk stairs to the rooms so if you are climbing challenged request one of the upper rooms.
