The coastal town of Ankola, located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, is one of the most popular beach destinations in South India. In line with the Arabian Sea, it has many pristine beaches, such as Belekeri, Nadibag, Baskal Gudda, Shedikuli and Keli for the tourists to relax and refresh their senses. On their trip to Ankola, the tourists can relish Ishaad, a local breed of mangoes that is famous here. The practice of cashew harvesting is also popular among the masses here, and visitors can take home varieties of cashews.
Besides beaches, there are various other tourist places to visit in this town. Lakshmi Narayan Mahamaya Temple and Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple are the popular temples in Ankola. The Kuladevta Temple Complex in the town was established by the Konkani Saraswat Brahmins. The tourists arriving at the town in the month of May can be part of 'Bandihabba', the annual 'mela' that marks the auspicious occasion of 'Budh Purnima'. It is one of the important festivals of this place, and celebrated over a duration of nine days. Another important festival celebrated by the entire town with great fervour is 'Karthik', which falls in the month of November. The visitors can also enjoy some local scrumptious cuisines, such as Koli Asi (Chicken curry), Kotte Roti and Kajmiji. Places around Ankola are also popular and the tourists can set out on a rock climbing trip in the nearby town of Yana.
