Ayodhya is a popular pilgrimage centre in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Located on the banks of the holy river Sarayu, this town is famed as the birthplace of Lord Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The places to visit in Ayodhya mainly include ancient monuments and temples. A trip to Ayodhya is a must for all pilgrims as this place purifies their mind and soul. Ayodhya can be reached easily by road, rail and air. The nearest airport is at Lucknow from where frequent buses are available for Ayodhya.
Ramkot is the primary temple where pilgrims throng to pay homage to Lord Rama. The Hanuman Garhi is one of the most highly revered Ayodhya temples that is situated at the centre of the town. According to legends, Hanuman lived in this cave temple and it is also believed that one who offers prayers at this temple can get his/her desires fulfilled. Kanak Bhawan, Swarg Dwar, Nageshwarnath Temple, Chhoti Devkali Mandir and Janaki Birla Temple are some of the other important shrines of Ayodhya. The holy town of Ayodhya is also dotted with a number of kunds. Most popular among them are the Brahma Kund, Sita Kund, Vashishtha Kund, Dashrath Kund and Hanuman Kund.
