Badrinath, one of the significant shrines in Char Dham pilgrimage, gets its name from the famous Badrinath Temple. It is believed that the temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya, a revered Indian philosopher. Tapt Kund is another important religious place in the town, famous for its hot springs. Though the water of the springs comes from the snow-capped Himalayas, its temperature ranges between 45 and 55 degree Celsius. Legend has it that Tapt Kund is an abode of Agni Dev and a dip in it before visiting the main shrine at Badrinath washes away all the sins.
Among other Badrinath trip attractions, the Neelkanth Parvat is the one, from where stunning vistas of surroundings can be enjoyed. It is also known as the 'Garhwal Queen' and considered a good place for meditation. During a Badrinath tour, travellers can also pay a visit to the Panch Prayag which is a meeting point of five rivers, namely Dev Prayag, Rudra Prayag, Nand Prayag, Karna Prayag and Vishnu Prayag. What adds to the sanctity of Panch Prayag is the presence of numerous temples located nearby. Every year, multitude of devotees visit Panch Prayag to witness the confluence of these five rivers.
Tourists who wish to pay obeisance in Badrinath are advised to avoid monsoon as the terrains are slippery and landslides are common. The ideal time to visit Badrinath is from May to June and September to November. During this period, the weather is pleasant and the temperature is neither too high nor too low.
